When loud music interrupts the mourning of his dog, a young boy goes to chastise the monsters responsible. ‘Monster Mosh’ is a SCAD Collaborative project, conceptualized and produced over a tight 10 week time span. I had the honor of creating environment designs, color keys, and character designs for the project.

For my environment work, I generated thumbnails to get my initial ideas and possibilities visualized for the team. We played around with the graveyard being everything from a dramatic view of a gothic landscape, to a gated cemetery in a modern city. For the underground rave, I explored set design elements that reflected a modern nightclub while keeping in-theme with our macabre aesthetic.

Grimothy is the main character of Monster Mosh. A middle schooler filled with angst, he wears moody and baggy clothing, but has an overall curious nature. The development process of Grimothy primarily consisted of balancing those two aspects of his character, as he functions as the audience viewpoint into this fantastical undead world.

In addition to Grimothy, I created an early concept for our skeleton design that would be used throughout the underground rave. Even though this concept was later revised, we were still able to come up with design solutions (primarily how to simplify the skeleton system) using parts of this early design.

For our poster I wanted to make a teaser into the films atmosphere without giving too much away. This wasn’t a required part of the project but we wanted to have a poster to represent all of our hard work!
